Questions

What are you looking forward to right now? Is there anything that you can’t wait to “get to”?

Jon said, “There’s no GET TO without the GO THROUGH”. Can you think of something you had to go through in order to get to where you are today?

Can you think of an example from your life of how God uses the trials of the past to prepare us for a better future?

JOURNALING EXERCISE

God gives a consistent promise of his Presence to his people. That does not mean that we will never encounter wilderness type seasons, but it does mean that he promises to be with us in that wilderness. Below, you will find a short journaling prompt meant to remind you of God’s consistent Presence…

PART I
Make a list of all the difficulties you have walked through this year. Write each difficulty down on a new line.

PART II
Now, go back through each difficulty and write onto the end of each line…”and God is with me”. Allow the practice of writing this phrase over and over to serve as a reminder of God’s Presence with you in every moment.

Prayer

God, I bring to you everything that I’m going through right now.
I bring you my fear, my pain, my confusion, and my overwhelm.
I bring you the situations I don’t know how to navigate.
I bring you the relationships I feel burdened by.
I bring you the questions I don’t have answers to.
I bring you the circumstances and the seasons that feel hopeless.

You are the God of the go through
The God who really does work all things for good.
Help me to go through this trial with faith, with patience, with trust, and with hope.
Help me to go through this trial remembering that I am not alone in it.
You are with me.

God, would you use this trial to prepare me for even greater things to come.

I believe it. For I believe in you.

Amen

I had to go through financial uncertainty in order to learn to trust God with my resources.

I had to go through letting go of control - letting go of the timing of our relationship, our job situation - in order to learn how the Lord shows up for us.

Liz Diebolt

As a healthcare worker, I am used to serving others. I had to go through some internal resistance in order to receive the help we needed when COVID took a toll on my family.

Angela Treimer

I had to go through losing my dream job to discover that I'm exactly where I need to be, doing exactly what I need to be doing. It just wasn't what I thought.

Jenny Matthew

I had to go through an unexpected job loss in order to get to God's best for my life. He's gently led me through this season of unemployment, and has opened up doors to lead me to a whole new career. This year has proven that He is truer to the desires of my heart than I am, and for that, I am so thankful.

Renee Bolton

Bronzeville
I had to go through a decade of difficulties - over four lay-offs due to companies re-organizing and eviction notices when I didn’t know where the rent was going to come from - in order to the amazing work that God has given me to do at World Vision. I discovered that He always provides, always delivers bigger and better than what I could have ever imagined.

Hey Soul City!

A quick message for those joining us in person this weekend:

Recently, the CDC shared new guidelines for wearing face masks in public and in indoor settings to promote safety in areas with substantial risks of transmission. Therefore, we are requiring that masks are worn while in the building on Sundays.

We are continuously reviewing the CDC guidelines and what our next steps will be – as your safety remains our priority.
